Yesterday I found an article about SoundsOnline and EastWest giving away a small version of its Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Library for free. There’s only one catch: You have to take a short survey.
I got my version and took a short look. Well, there are some useful instruments in the package but in the end it is nothing more than a promotional package. The instruments can be used in addition to some other libraries but don’t make too much sense alone. I think the best part of this give-away is the upgrade offer of EastWest. You can upgrade from the free version to the full versions with a discount.
I’m a proud owner of a squeezebox 3 and a squeezebox boom. However I am a fan of self learning systems and like to have a playlist which learns what I like to hear and what I will skip. This is why I always loved IMMS. Unfortunately there is no such mechanism in the squeezebox server. After a while trying to mimic the behavior using the Dynamic Playlist Plugin I found someone who tried to integrate IMMS into a plugin for the squeezebox server.
After installing it I had to fix some stuff to make it work for me (at least it learns. I am not too sure about creating new playlists). I tried to contact the writer of the original plugin but never got a message back. So, now I’m giving something back by releasing the version I use.
For more information about the plugin just read here.
